1 Unease about Transferring Abroad

When planning to transfer jobs and start working abroad, are you concerned about being able to speak that area's native language? It's often said that English is the language most likely get across with people around the globe. Therefore, for all of us who have worked hard to study English since grade school, a major concern is if we will be able to put those skills to work when communicating. Let's start by checking how many Japanese people are living abroad.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, as of October 2016, 1,338,477 Japanese people are living abroad. This data does not include permanent residents or those of Japanese descent who have changed their nationality. Isn't that amazing?!

While there isn't any data on their language skills, it is unlikely to assume that all of them speak English, meaning that it is possible to successfully live abroad even if you don't possess English speaking skills!

2 How to Transfer Abroad without English Skills

To start, it will obviously be difficult to secure a job that requires a high-level of English capabilities. However, with jobs in the food and beverage industry, we here at Washokujob put a lot of efforts into supporting the recruitment process.

At many Japanese restaurants, you can work there successfully without needing to know English. That's because many of their chef's and managers are also Japanese, meaning you can communicate in Japanese instead. Many employers are aiming to find chefs that will create delicious, authentic Japanese cuisine, meaning that language skills aren't on the forefront of their qualifications.

For those looking to work in front of house positions, there are both those that do and do not require English language skills. Sometimes, local Japanese residents will make up a big portion of these restaurants' customers, meaning that being able to speak Japanese with the staff will prove to be a comforting and nostalgic experience for them.

But in other instances, you will need to speak English with the customers. However, you can learn a lot of the necessary English terms and skills through working, and it isn't too difficult. If you study hard, you can likely pick up all the skills you need in just a month.

We have helped many candidates secure jobs abroad, even if they don't speak English too well.

Of course, speaking English will grant you more options, but f you can make delicious Japanese cuisine, Washokujob is here to offer you all of our support! ( ^-^)
