When travelling to a new country for the first time, it can be dizzying enough just trying to discern left from right. But fear not, as Hong Kong will keep you in the right direction! Because Hong Kong makes for easy living for Japanese people.

Actually, there are many Japanese-owned restaurants and shops in Hong Kong, and all of this information can be found in the Hong Kong publication Pocket Page Weekly (PPW). PPW relays information about Japanese-owned salons, restaurants, and many other locations. And that’s not all -- there is even information about groups for people coming from the same prefecture, and other various cultural/social activity groups. It will be a relief to meet other Japanese people in these groups to make friends and share your experiences together.

No one likes getting sick even at home, but in Hong Kong you will find doctors who can speak Japanese, or who are trained in traditional Chinese medicine, so you won’t have to worry about not being able to communicate your ails! You will even be able to find dentists who speak Japanese, as well.

While Japanese-owned restaurants may be expensive, or perhaps you’re not used to the local food, there are supermarkets in Japan that sell Japanese goods, such as AEON and Sogo. Of course it will be more expensive than in Japan, but you should be able to find all of the basic ingredients you are accustomed to using at home. Additionally, you can find website that will deliver Japanese ingredients right to your door!

There are many people who relocate to Hong Kong for work who also bring their children with them. Unlike in Japan, it’s possibly to hire a nanny or other assistant to help take care of your children while you work. If you’re particularly busy, the nanny will be able to help watch your children, prepare meals, wash clothes, and take care of other cleaning. There are also schools dedicated to Japanese students in Hong Kong, as well.

Lastly, as far as the cost of living is concerned, rent is more expensive than in Japan, but the cost of public transportation and taxes are lower.
