New Zealand is located in the South Pacific and is an island country with an area larger than Honshu in Japan. But it's population is only 1/3 of Tokyo's, just under 5 million people. Though it has a relatively low population, it is still known for being a hot tourism spot.

Related organizations of the United Nations ranked Japan as 58th in happiest places around the world in 2019, but New Zealand came out in 8th place! It's a wonderful country where the people are happy. To its west lies Australia, and to its south lies Antarctica, and New Zealand is a country blessed with lush greenery and beautiful scenery. This article will provide some background information on Auckland.

It is said that Auckland has more than 140,000 yachts and other small vessels, meaning that 1 in every 10 people owns some type of boat. This is why Auckland is known as the City of Sails.

1. A City of Immigrants

Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, and has the largest population of 1.6 million people. Among them, 40% are immigrants from abroad, making it quite the diverse city.

2. Daily Life

Being a city of immigrants, Auckland is abound with food, entertainment, and religion from around the world. It is a peaceful city of many cultures.  Being on an island country with a small population, there is a lot of greenery and you will be surrounded by Mother Nature. Also, many super markets and restaurants close early, at around 8 or 9pm. And it is still light out at night, surprising many visitors not used to this. As for commodities, you can cheaply purchase dairy and produce, but vehicles and other things are expensive. There aren't many one-room apartments in Auckland, with most dwellings being 2-3 rooms and rather spacious. You also pay rent on a weekly basis in Auckland, which is a bit expensive at 3,000-8,000JPY. Many foreigners coming to live in Auckland will start out living in a share house.
